Fabiana Barreda

She was born in Buenos Aires in 1967. She holds a degree in Psychology, specializing in psychoanalysis, philosophy, and contemporary art. She has been working as an artist and art critic since 1992. Her work is part of the collections of the Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires, the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires, and the Castagnino Museum in Rosario. She serves as a juror for various national awards, such as the National Arts Fund, the National Salon, and the Belgrano Salon, among others. She directs the Art Gallery of the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Buenos Aires.

Her work refers to habitat and how, throughout history, architecture and morphological processes generate different ways of constructing and deconstructing home and identity. By recreating the work of significant architects, she builds utopian projects that reflect on new forms of space and body. The development of the body is related to an erotic and feminist reading of a new archetype of contemporary inhabitant concerning new spatial metaphors, redefining female and male roles in a more liberated manner. Through a system of vector representation, she relates the body to spatial diagrams, generating a new psychological module to consider the current concerns regarding a new form of emotional habitat for individuals.

Society undergoes conceptual and technological transformation, as do gender identities, specifically the representations of the body. Her interest lies in connecting the relationships between changes in individual identities and how this is projected in a new society. She works with acrylic objects, photographs, video installations, and performance.
