Anti-Trespassing Configurations (2011) Photography 25 1/2 x 16”
Alva Cal y Mayor (b. 1978) is a multidisciplinary artist from Mexico City based in New York, whose work navigates the intersection of material experimentation, research, and socio-political inquiry. Working across media including photography, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking, she reflects on current events and shifting cultural landscapes. Her pieces tend to be everyday objects that are altered or detached from their natural function, often containing hidden elements—tucked behind or beneath the surface— inviting viewers to look closer and engage beyond the initial impression. Her art is frequently driven by research-based inquiry that connects history, science, politics and aesthetics, as well as the emotional resonance of natural pigments.
Her piece, Anti-Trespassing Configurations, was part of the 2011 Point of Contact exhibit Edifice, an installation show by Gabriela Alva Cal y Mayor. and Natalia Porter.
