Juan Juárez

Juan Juarez is a visual artist and Associate Professor at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where he serves as Chair of the Department of Art. Prior to this, from 2007 to 2025, he was Associate Professor and served as Director of Graduate Studies in the School of Art at Syracuse University’s College of Visual & Performing Arts. He earned his B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Texas, and his M.A. and M.F.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His interdisciplinary studio practice includes painting, photography, collage, video, installation, and digital mediation. Among his notable projects is Corpus, a multimedia installation exploring memory and decay, exhibited at the Point of Contact Gallery in 2017. His piece, Indices (2025), now in the Point of Contact permanent collection, was inspired by the poem of the same title by Mexican American poet Diana Marie Delgado, and was created for Point of Contact’s annual Cruel April poetry series in 2025.
