Leandro Katz

Born in Argentina, Katz arrived in New York in 1965. As a poet, translator, Conceptual artist, and professor, Katz participated in experimental literary movements in Buenos Aires, Quito, Lima, and New York. Coming to the end of a winding path through South and Central America, in New York he found a thriving community of avant-garde artists and activists. He made the city his home for over 40 years.

El día que me quieras (1997) is a 30-minute non-narrative film investigating death and the power of photography. The film is a meditation on the last pictures taken of Ernesto Che Guevara, as he lay dead on a table surrounded by his captors, in Bolivia in 1967. Not a political documentary in the traditional sense, the film alternates between evocation and straight reportage, centering on an interview with the Bolivian photographer Freddy Alborta. Suffused with a sense of mystery, El Día Que Me Quieras is about our assimilation of history.
