Pérez Celis (1939–2008) was a celebrated Argentine artist known for his paintings, sculptures, murals, and engravings. Born Celis Pérez in Buenos Aires, he grew up in Liniers and began studying art at the Belgrano School of Fine Arts. He held his first exhibition at 17 and soon adopted the name Pérez Celis. Early influences, such as Victor Vasarely, shaped his exploration of geometric and abstract forms. His monumental mural Fuerza América (1962) marked the beginning of a career that would span more than 120 solo exhibitions worldwide. Throughout his life, Pérez Celis lived and worked in Buenos Aires, Caracas, Paris, New York, and Miami. His career was recognized with numerous awards, including the Alba Award at the Salón Nacional de Artes Plásticas and his designation as a Distinguished Citizen of Buenos Aires in 2001. Beyond his visual art, he illustrated literary works such as Jorge Luis Borges’ Spanish translation of Leaves of Grass.
