Liliana Porter (born 1941 in Argentina) is a renowned contemporary visual artist whose work spans multiple media, including painting, printmaking, photography, installation, and performance. Her art is characterized by a critical and playful reflection on reality, representation, and narrative, often using small objects and figurines to explore themes such as memory, irony, and the human condition. Porter studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and later moved to the United States, where she developed much of her career. Her work has been exhibited internationally in major museums and galleries such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires, Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, and the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.

Black Shoes is a collaborative work by Liliana Porter and Ana Tiscornia merging two distinct artistic languages. Liliana Porter brings philosophical exploration of metaphor, while Ana Tiscornia contributes her politically engaged practice rooted in memory and current events. While one is dramatic, the other confronts human tragedy with humor. The work features one of Porter's signature figurines intruding upon an alien space created from Tiscornia's digitalized photography, fragmented objects, and rolled pieces of paper. The fusion of both languages gives rise to a narrative where visual ambiguity opens new ways of interpretation. A striking example of collaborative artmaking from two internationally acclaimed Latin American artists.
