This fifth issue (April/May 1978) of Point of Contact presents a rich collection of critical essays, poetry, and visual art. It includes an excerpt from Manuel Puig’s forthcoming novel Pubis Angelical; David W. Seaman’s discussion of critical problems in concrete poetry; Paolo Valesio on the practice of literary semiotics; Julio Cortázar’s “Cinco sonetos eróticos”; essays by Vicente Fatone, Raimundo Panikkar, and Marc Zimmerman; as well as photographic work by Joseph Kugielsky and an etching by Katherine Willner.

In its early years, Point of Contact functioned as an independent, bilingual literary journal dedicated to interdisciplinary inquiry. Bringing together literature, philosophy, criticism, and visual art, the journal foregrounded the ways in which textual and aesthetic practices are shaped by language, theory, and cultural context, publishing essays, creative works, and critical exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries.
