50… SIN CUENTA
Point of Contact celebrated its 50th anniversary
presenting 50 Sin Cuenta
a showcase of Latin American art from its permanent collection.
Half a Century
For fifty years, Punto de Contacto–Point of Contact (POC) has served as a space where artists, poets, and thinkers from across languages and borders come together to exchange ideas and create new meanings. Founded by Argentine scholar Pedro Cuperman at Syracuse University, POC began as a daring literary experiment that embraced risk and celebrated difference. Over time, it evolved into a dynamic forum for contemporary art and literature, connecting Central New York with the broader Latin American world. The collection behind the 50 Sin Cuenta exhibition reflects this evolution—built not by traditional rules, but by a deep cultural conviction and a passionate belief in the power of the aesthetic experience.
Each work in the exhibition embodies that same spirit of openness and dialogue, revealing the richness and complexity of Latin American art. As POC moves into its next fifty years, it remains rooted in imagination, courage, and connection—values that transcend technological change. The project continues to invite audiences to participate in a shared creative journey that unites diverse voices and perspectives. What began as one person’s vision has become a collective endeavor, sustained by the artists, collaborators, and communities who carry its story forward.
Support for this program came from Syracuse University and several of its academic departments and units including the Latino-Latin American Studies Program,
Centro de Estudios Hispánicos (LLL), and the Humanities Center.
Point of Contact programs are also made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) with the support of the Office of the Governor and the NY State Legislature.
This exhibit was presented in partnership with the Warehouse Gallery and the Museum Studies Program of the College of Visual & Performing Arts at Syracuse University.
